Description
Sony’s futuristic racing series WIPEOUT is back with WIPEOUT PURE for the PSP. Taking all the components that made the series popular and dumping everything that didn’t work in the previous installments, WIPEOUT PURE seeks to be the purest form of futuristic hovercraft racing. The game, while taking place in the future, is basic racing: players speed around narrow tracks to cross the line first while taking advantage of speed boosts and weapons such as mines, guided missiles, and the quake weapon. Each hit depletes the craft’s shields or, if the craft has no shields, sends it spinning out of control. Players have the option, however, of converting any picked up weapon into shield power, adding a level of strategy to the race. There are five different classes of hovercraft, each faster and more powerful than the last, and players will find the upper classes really test their reaction time. The 19 included tracks themselves are full of hair-pin turns, twists, and jumps. Several are upgraded versions of classic tracks seen before in the WIPEOUT series. The game modes in WIPEOUT PURE are the standard racing game modes: single race, tournament, time trial, and free play. The new mode is called Zone mode. Here, players race around a track while automatically increasing speed while avoiding obstacles or walls Wi-FI multiplayer support is also available for up to eight racers. Fans of the previous WIPEOUT games and racing gamers, especially those that like the sci-fi setting, will enjoy WIPEOUT PURE.
