Text: CRAIG RICE: Home Sweet Homicide mystery classic HB 1946.
This copy is the Tower Motion Picture Books edition, first printing August 1946. Just $9. Hard cover book in good condition. Cover has some soiling and scuffing and a bend on the upper back corner. There are signatures of readers inside at the front and back. Pages are otherwise crisp and without markings, and have darkening from age. In 1946, Time magazine selected mystery writer Craig Rice for a cover photo and story.
Unlike Rice's other novels with the semi-hardboiled, alcohol-inspired zaniness of her regular lead character John Malone, this novel abounds with charm. Three very independent children of a mystery-writing mother solve a murder and play matchmaker for their mother at the same time. There is a delightful period charm to the book, with malt shops and secret alphabets. This is Rice's most-loved novel, and no wonder. The children are endearing without overdoing it. The lightness and humor of this book are perfect, and it receives five star ratings from many readers. Stored in a smoke free home.
